[There is, at first, infinite blackness. It's hard to say if it's simply the absence of light or the absence of anything. The only figure that stands out is a girl. She seems young, maybe thirteen years old. She wears a pink sweatshirt that seems too big for her. Her red skirt hangs limply over her legs. Her expression blank, she stares at her red shoes. Long, brown braids hang down as she looks.]

[This isn't how it's supposed to be.]

[She takes a step forward, one foot then the other. In the wake of her footsteps, bright colored patterns appear on the floor. She slowly walks forward until she has a trail of these symbols on the ground. She stops to look back at the reds, the yellows, the blues. Abruptly she turns and runs back along the path. A clear, crisp note rings out when her foot hits each symbol. It's a simple, childish tune as she runs. She stops at the end of the patterns.]

[Her breath has picked up a little, and she stands still waiting for it to return to normal. She looks up at the all-encompassing darkness. She had a lot to fill.]
